A Day in the Life of a Photoshoot Makeup Artist and Hairstylist
As a makeup artist and hairstylist specializing in photoshoot photography, my days are filled with creativity, connection, and empowerment. Each session is unique, but my goal is always the same: to help clients feel confident, beautiful, and ready to embrace their wild side. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what a typical day looks like for me at Vetted Beauty.
Morning Prep: Setting the Stage
The day usually starts with prepping my tools and products. I sanitize every brush, organize my makeup kit, and ensure my hairstyling tools are ready to go. Every client is different, so I take time to review any notes or inspiration photos we’ve discussed during the consultation.
Having everything in order helps the day run smoothly and ensures I’m fully present for each client.
Welcoming the Client
When clients arrive, I like to start with a warm welcome and a brief chat to set the tone. Many are excited but a little nervous, especially if it’s their first photoshoot session. This is where I remind them that they’re in a safe, supportive space where the focus is all about celebrating them.
We go over their desired look, and I offer guidance if they’re unsure. For clients who choose my signature soft glam and sultry curls package, I explain how this timeless combination enhances their natural beauty and photographs beautifully.
The Transformation Process
The beauty transformation begins with makeup. I start with a clean, glowing base, using lightweight, natural foundation to even out the skin while keeping it fresh and radiant. Neutral tones enhance the eyes, and lightweight false lashes add that extra touch of drama without feeling heavy.
Once the makeup is complete, we move on to hair. Whether the client wants playful, bouncy curls or sultry, cascading waves, I tailor the style to suit their vision and the vibe of the shoot.
This process isn’t just about creating a look—it’s about helping clients feel relaxed, pampered, and ready to embrace their confidence.
On Set: Supporting the Session
During the shoot, I stay nearby for touch-ups and adjustments. Studio lights and wardrobe changes can affect the look, so I ensure everything stays flawless. It’s amazing to watch clients transform in front of the camera, shedding any initial nerves and fully embracing their empowered selves.
Working alongside photographers like Rachel Sakakeeny is always a joy. We collaborate to create cohesive, stunning visuals that reflect the client’s unique personality and beauty.
Why I Love What I Do
Every photoshoot session is an opportunity to empower someone and help them see themselves in a new light. Hair and makeup are more than just finishing touches—they’re an integral part of the transformation, helping clients step into their most confident, radiant selves.
